New Baby Chicks – 1 Week Old Chickens

New Baby Chicks – 1 Week Old Chickens

We just brought home new baby chicks yesterday. They were supposedly 5 days old yesterday, so would be about 6 days old today. For now we have them indoors for the first 5 weeks or so, since they are not big enough to put outside.

All 6 are hens, and we have 2 Golden Wyandotte, 1 New Hampshire Red, 2 Black Sex Links, and 1 Black Australorp.

Right now they are in a giant Plastic tub that we got from Walmart for about $17, with a feeder, waterer, and heat lamp that we got from the tack store.

The tack store that we got the chicks at charged about $3 each for the waterer and feeder, and it was $11 for a 25 pound bag of Chick starter feed, and about $11 for a 50 pound bag of wood shavings for bedding. This setup, with the chicks totaled about $110, but could have been done a lot cheaper.
